Priority and Gender Equality- Stefan Cross Centre Annual Lecture
Thursday 22nd February 2024, 6:00pm
The movement for gender equality and women’s human rights in international human rights law began with the struggle for recognition of status, equality and rights, a struggle that continues to be central to the movement even today.
Join Shreya Atrey, an Associate Professor in International Human Rights Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Oxford, and based at the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights for the Annual Stefan Cross Centre Lecture.
This talk argues that an intersectional approach to gender equality in international human rights law is necessarily prioritarian, drawing attention to those most disadvantaged. It unravels the implications of this approach to gender equality in the interpretation and implementation of state obligations in international human rights law.
