Measuring the value of research and engaging with the public: tips for best practice 

 

Dr Michael Head, a Senior Research Fellow based at the University of Southampton, has worked for UCL for 11 years before moving to Southampton in 2015. Michael is based at the Clinical Informatics Research Unit in the Faculty of Medicine, where he’s been since 2018. He currently leads the “RESIN” group (analyses of research funding trends), as well as directing programmes of Global Health research and promoting public engagement and impact of research through media and policy pieces. 

 

His research interests in Global Health (GH) include determining health needs and healthcare access among Ukrainian refugee and displaced populations, vaccine hesitancy, use of digital health during the pandemic, epidemiology of neglected tropical diseases and research investment into GH.  

 

The Chatter session will focus on measures of research value and approaches to public and media engagement, including use of platforms such as The Conversation and the Times Higher Education.
