Safe Listening Space: Parents and Carers of Disabled Children

Tuesday 28th November 2023, 12:00pm

Safe Listening Space: Parents and Carers of Disabled Children and Young People

UK Disability History Month runs for 16th November to 16th December. The theme for 2023 is Disability Children and Youth. The University is facilitating a range of events across the month to increase understanding and acceptance of disability.

The Equality Diversity and Inclusion Team, UoS Disability Staff Network and University Parents and Carers Network invite parents and carers of disabled children or young people to join them for a Safe Listening Space.

The session will be facilitated by:

Libby Barton, Equality Diversity and Inclusion Specialist and Chair of the UoS Disability Staff Network

and

Claire Partridge, Co-Chair of the Parents and Carers Network.

About the session:

This confidential online Teams session is an opportunity for staff and PGRs to share their lived experience of being a parent or carer of a disabled child or young person and the impact this can have in the workplace.

Whilst we understand that some may not identify with the term disabled, parents and carers of individuals who are neurodivergent or have health conditions are welcome to join.

This is session is not a professional training session or an opportunity to gain expert advice and guidance. This is an opportunity to listen and share with colleagues who may have faced similar experiences in a safe environment.

Please be advised that there are limited spaces to this session to enable everyone to have the opportunity to talk. We therefore request if you are no longer able to attend that you inform the organisers to enable us to offer the space to someone else.

If you have any questions about the session, please contact diversity@soton.ac.uk.
