Stem Cells and organoids: a future for complex translational biology

Wednesday 12th July 2023, 9:30am

We are holding a one day symposia sponsored by the FELS Mental Health initiative and IFLS Cell biology theme to showcase the potential, possibilities and local expertise in human stem cell and organoid biology. These reduced systems of complex human biology are already serving an important focus for Life Sciences research. They act as a pivot in the transition between molecular and cellular investigation as they build complexity toward tissue, organ and completely animal research. Of course, studying biological principles in a human context makes these experimental systems an important future for human research. This places the technology at the forefront of translational biology across a number of important domains encompassing drug discovery, toxicology, and genetic basis of disease and offers potency in therapeutic approaches to regenerative medicine. The day will introduce exciting science and aim to establish routes to grow infrastructure and networking across the University to facilitate uptake and use of this technology in our research portfolios.

The confirmed speakers are:

Round table discussion of expertise and infrastructures.

There will be a small post meeting social event for those that can attend, this will start at 4pm.

Full programme to follow.
