Conversations in Ethics
Tuesday 23rd April 2024, 12:00pm
The faculty research ethics committee invite you, in collaboration with SIAH, to an interdisciplinary lunchtime Conversations in Ethics session focused on ethical approaches to social media analysis. This will be the first of a new series of termly events aiming to explore research ethics in the continually changing research fields across the Arts and Humanities.
The session will feature presentations from Dr Lexi Webster (Deputy Director of Digital Humanities) and Dr Alexandra Krendel (Lecturer in Applied Linguistics) which will serve as case studies to then inspire a larger conversation with the audience on social media analysis ethics. Lexi will discuss the different ethically informed approaches she has taken to identifying/anonymising Twitter users in her research, and how that has changed over time, while Alexandra plan to address ethical considerations specific to her research in the online anti-feminist network known as the manosphere, which contains groups linked to offline violent attacks such as involuntary celibates (incels).
